One of my tutor's suggested for a week I pare down

One of my tutor's suggested for a week I pare down my practice to the basics-simple pencil drawings. I am using a tiny pencil, and no eraser. The pencil is water soluble , so I am able to wet it for effects. Also, Tom's ( my neighbor's dog)muddy paws are part of the drawing as he jumped upon the paper to cover me in kisses.

Doing homework by the Thames feels surreal. I feel incredibly grateful. Thirty-five years ago, I made a proleptic sketch of the house I live in now. As I was writing this, my amazing 85 year old neighnor , Diane, and her dog, Tom sat to chat. She made this garden when I was born in 1966. Diane showered me with brilliant conversation and laughter; Tom with wonderfully sloppy dog kisses. I can get stressed out about the incredibly intense MFA program I am in, but I am not going to. When I realized I I sketched a house, I would start my art career at 57 when I was only 22 years old, I had this humbling realization that all is as it should be. Everything, everything needed to happen for all of the love, grace, and quiet joy to be in my life now🙏🏽❤️

I always tell people that when you're having a hard time, the best thing to do is to help someone else....

Three months ago, I had a major surgery. Surgery was difficult and made more so when an artery was nicked, taking a drain out of my abdomen. The recovery has been brutally challenging. Some days are better than others. Today wasn't one of those days.I almost didn't make it to the studio, but I summoned all my energy with reiki and prayer stepping outside to a world that felt especially daunting and unwelcoming...

I have a lovely karma that I see hearts everywhere and see even more the worse I feel. Today, despite the torrential rain, my crying, tired puffy eyes began to smile at the sight of these talismen. Messages. The angels telling me they loved me?

When I got to the studio building, I had a tired, grateful resolve. That building is dirty, dank, and dreary, and most of its inhabitants follow suit. Still...resolved I am about to reach my studio door and I see a bird trapped in the walls falling apart stairwell, desperately; trying to escape-- just going in circles.

I sent her Reiki. We flew through the whole building, and somehow, she flew into my studio. It took a little bit....more reiki... singing Amazing Grace... telling her it was going to be alright; not to be afraid because the fear would just exhaust her. Then, just like it was her plan all along, she flew out of the kitchenette window to the welcoming tree filled garden where she belonged. 💜
